As a contemporary artist, ​I work in collage with multi-dimensional forms of media such as paper, screen, and installation. My recent work focuses on the textures and images created by the crumpling and tearing of paper, which has been a conceptual motif in my work for a long time. The crumpled paper resembles myself as a fragile, fragmented, and peripheral being. Crumpling, tearing, and reassembling the paper to create an image feels like outing myself from the inner world. Just as a caterpillar sheds its chrysalis as it grows and a tree sheds its bark, so do I shed the layers of my life. May they resonate with someone.

알렉스 김 재현

 

현대미술작가로 활동하며, 주로 종이, 스크린, 설치에 기반한 다차원의 매체형식을 콜라주 기법으로 작업한다. 최근에는 오래전부터 내 작업의 개념적 모티프가 되어온, 종이의 구겨짐과 찢어짐이 만들어내는 질감과 이미지에 주목하여 작업하고 있다. 주름지고 찢어진, 주변적 존재로서의 구겨진 종이는 나의 심상이다. 종이를 구기고, 찢고, 다시 조합하여 형상화하는 작업은 내 안에 갇히기 쉬운 자아를 바깥으로 노출하는 경험으로 느껴진다. 애벌레가 성장하며 허물을 벗고, 나무가 껍질을 벗듯이, 나도 삶의 껍데기를 조금씩 벗겨낸다. 누군가는 그 흔적에 공명하기를.
